The Federal Government has condemned the reported Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which allegedly killed 12 civilians and injured more than 300 others.
Nigeria’s position was contained in a statement issued on Sunday, October 11, 2026, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Oluwafemi Adeniyi, who described the incident as a dangerous escalation threatening civilian safety and regional stability.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria strongly condemns the attack by Houthi Militia on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on Saturday. 10 October 2026, which reportedly resulted in the tragic loss of twelve civilian lives and left more than 300 people injured,” the statement read.
The ministry said the attack disregarded the protection of civilian lives, violated Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and threatened ongoing efforts to promote peace and security in the Middle East.
“Nigeria considers the incident a dangerous escalation, that flagrantly disregards the safety of civilian life, violates the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and undermines ongoing efforts to promote peace, secunty and stability in the Middle East,” it stated.
The Federal Government called on all parties involved to respect international law, exercise restraint and avoid further actions capable of worsening tensions or endangering civilians.
“Nigeria reiterates its call on all parties to respect international law, exercise utmost restraint, and refrain from any further action that could escalate tensions, endanger civilian lives, damage civilian infrastructure or further undermine regional peace and security,” the statement added.

Nigeria also expressed solidarity with the Saudi government and its people, extending condolences to families who lost loved ones and wishing those injured a speedy recovery.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria expresses its solidarity with the Government and people of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and extends its deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the attack. Nigeria also wishes those injured a speedy and full recovery,” the ministry said.

The government further stressed the importance of respecting Saudi Arabia’s territorial integrity and protecting civilian infrastructure in accordance with international law.
It also commended the Saudi authorities for their emergency response following the incident and their continued efforts to safeguard the country and its citizens.
“The Federal Government of Nigeria reaffims its unwaverir ommitment to supporting diplomatic initiatives and constructiv dialogue aimed at advancing international peace, security and stability,” the statement said.
Nigeria added that it supported genuine diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, protect civilians and promote regional stability across the Middle East.
