Lautaro Martínez debunks conspiracy theories about the World Cup final won by Spain

Lautaro Martínez, forward for Inter Milan, dismantles all the speculation and conspiracy theories that were published in Argentina about the 2026 World Cup final, which Spain ended up winning 1-0 thanks to a historic goal by Ferran Torres.

After losing the World Cup final, the commitment of the Albiceleste players was even called into question in Argentina.

Lautaro Martínez: "When people talk about those theories, it's annoying. The opponent was superior and at some point it was going to happen"

'"When people talk about those theories, it's annoying. The opponent was superior and at some point it was bound to happen," highlighted Lautaro Martínez, who did not play a single second in the final by Scaloni's decision despite being decisive with a goal against England in the semifinals.'

There were people who couldn't walk and kept running, and until the very last play we had a chance to win it

Lautaro Martínez highlighted that "the match against England took a lot of energy out of us. We gave even what we didn’t have, and in the final as well. Seeing players like Nico (Otamendi), like Cuti (Romero), like Licha (Martínez), who had to come off, but who gave everything, even what they didn’t have, like Gonzalo (Montiel), Leo (Messi), Julián (Álvarez), and I could keep naming them because in the end, we left everything out there, even what we didn’t have, and it showed."

"There were people who could barely walk and kept running, and until the very last play we had a chance to win it. So when those theories are talked about, it's upsetting, but upsetting in the sense that it shows we gave everything and that's what gives us peace of mind; it didn't happen. The opponent was superior and at some point it was going to happen," emphasized the third-highest scorer in the history of the Albiceleste.

The Argentine forward pointed out on AFA Estudio that "many of us arrived in difficult shape. I had an injury that kept me out for two months. In the knockout stage, extra time drains your energy. Having to come from behind, knowing you have to turn matches around, the anxiety of the people, the nervousness, everything that was going on, all eyes were on Argentina. So, I think that right up until the final whistle of the last match, where we couldn't manage to bring the cup home again, it was clear that the team gave even what it didn't have left."
