A woman in her 40s has been arrested on charges of killing her father after losing money he had given her to invest.
The Cheonan Dongnam Police Station in South Chungcheong Province said on the 11th that it had arrested the woman, identified only as A, on a charge of killing a lineal ascendant.
She is accused of striking her sleeping father, a man in his 60s identified as B, with a blunt object at an apartment in Cheonan at around noon on Sept. 13.
Investigators found that A had received several hundred million won from her father years earlier and lost the money investing in stocks and other assets. She told police she had been under stress because her father blamed her for the failed investments, saying it was her fault every time they met, according to accounts of her statement.
The killing went undetected for more than three weeks. A had been staying at a lodging business in Sokcho, Gangwon State, and a missing-person report was filed after she left her belongings behind and stopped responding to contact. Officers tracking her whereabouts went to B's home on the 8th and found him dead.
Police identified A as a suspect and detained her without a warrant, citing evidence including the absence of any gas use at the home after her visit. A court issued a detention warrant for her the previous day.
"A says she made up her mind on the day of the killing, and so far no circumstances indicating that she planned it have been confirmed," a police official said. "We plan to investigate the exact circumstances and motive through forensic analysis of her mobile phone and other means."
