Tyler Cameron is going to be a dad!
On Tuesday night’s episode of Dancing With the Stars, which featured the theme Dedication Night, Cameron and his pro partner, Sharna Burgess, performed a contemporary routine to Ed Sheeran’s “Supermarket Flowers,” dedicating the dance to mothers everywhere. Cameron was joined by his fiancée, Tate Madden, who revealed during the show that she is pregnant with their first child.
The couple also revealed their baby’s sex live on the show, with pink confetti announcing that they’re having a girl.
“I get to be a girl dad. What a gift, what an opportunity,” Cameron said.
Cameron and Madden have been dating for about two years and got engaged in August, shortly before filming began on season 35 of Dancing With the Stars. The couple also work together on home construction projects and own TINKR.
In an interview with People, the couple revealed that they found out about Madden’s pregnancy shortly after getting engaged in August. Madden recalled taking a pregnancy test the night they returned from their engagement and telling Cameron, “You’re not going to believe this.”
The couple also saw the dance as a meaningful way to share the news.
“We thought it would be a really amazing way to reveal the baby and celebrate the baby,” Cameron told People.
The pair recently moved from Jupiter, Florida, to Los Angeles so Cameron could compete on the dancing reality series. As a result, he missed one of Madden’s ultrasounds while traveling for the show.
“Tate brought me a picture of the ultrasound to New York City when I finally got to see her again,” he said. “Seeing that picture was when it really, really was real for me. Like, ‘Oh my God, we’re doing this. We’re having a baby.’ It was just an amazing moment.”
The dance also carried a personal significance for Cameron, whose mother, Andrea Hermann Cameron, died from a brain aneurysm in February 2020. Ahead of last week’s Super Bowl Night, Cameron told The Hollywood Reporter that he hoped to honor his mother through the competition.
“I definitely want to do something in honor of my mom. She would have loved this show. My mom passed away not even a year after I went on The Bachelorette, and I feel like she was finally getting to live her best life,” he said. “It was a sudden loss, and it was very hard. We still grieve to this day.”
Cameron also told THR that making it to Dedication Night was a personal goal, describing the opportunity to honor his mother through dance as one of the biggest gifts he could give her.
“If I can get Dedication Night, it will be one of the greatest gifts I can ever give my mother and a way to honor her. Sharna is an incredible storyteller, and when she tells me how she wants to tell this story, I get the shivers,” he said. “In week two, she told me how she wanted to do it, and I almost started tearing up. To me, that’s like my Super Bowl, getting to that night.”
Cameron made it to Dedication Night, and he and his fellow contestants will now move on to Horror Movie Night.
