Police in Kabale District are investigating the alleged murder of a nine-month-old baby whose body was recovered in Bunagana Village, Mayengo Parish, Kamuganguzi Sub-county.
The incident is believed to have occurred on October 16, 2026, at about 9:00am, but came to light four days later, on October 20, at around 6:00pm.
The deceased was identified as JohnBosco Mugabe, the son of Wilber Turyatemba and Agnes Kyomukama, residents of Bunagana Village.
According to Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime, preliminary information indicates that Turyatemba and other individuals allegedly killed the infant.
The incident was reported after Deus Twinomugabe, an uncle to Kyomukama, encountered her at Bunagana Trading Centre on October 20 without the baby.
Twinomugabe reportedly became suspicious because Kyomukama usually carried the child on her back. When he asked about the infant’s whereabouts, she allegedly told him that she had handed the baby over to a woman from Kabale Town to take care of him.
Following the report, police visited the scene and recovered the baby’s body, which was taken to the mortuary at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination.
“Investigations into the matter are ongoing,” Tumushime said.
