Shillong, Oct 22: Tensions rose in the capital city following a petrol bomb attack targeting the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office situated in the Shyiap locality. Official sources confirmed that despite the incendiary device being hurled into the premises, no injuries were reported and no major structural damage occurred.
The incident marks a concerning escalation in the ongoing wave of petrol bomb attacks across Shillong, signaling that central government establishments are now directly within the crosshairs of unidentified miscreants.
Upon receiving information about the blast, East Khasi Hills district police rushed a team to the scene to secure the area, collect forensic samples, and gather evidence. Investigators are actively scanning local CCTV footage along key approach roads in Shiap to trace the movements of suspects who fled immediately after the attack.
The attack on the central agency’s premises follows several similar strikes targeting public sector properties and government offices throughout the city in recent weeks. Local authorities have intensified night patrolling across East Khasi Hills.
An investigation has been registered, and police are urging members of the public to come forward with any credible information that could help identify and apprehend those responsible for the violence.
