The Los Angeles Lakers’ interest in Bronny James reportedly extends beyond his relationship with his father, LeBron James. Despite persistent questions about why the franchise drafted him, an insider insists the organization’s belief in the young guard is genuine, echoing previous comments about the Lakers’ confidence in Bronny James.
The assessment challenges the narrative that Bronny’s place on the roster is primarily about keeping his superstar father happy.
During a Reddit discussion about common misconceptions surrounding the Lakers, the insider acknowledged that LeBron’s influence was a consideration but emphasized that the team sees legitimate potential in Bronny.

“The belief in Bronny James the person/player is genuine,” the insider wrote in a Reddit response about the Lakers.
“Of course the Lakers knew drafting him would make LeBron happy, but they’ve always been intrigued by his athleticism and length (despite his size),” the commenter added.
The insider also highlighted Bronny’s professionalism, saying that people within the organization have praised his work ethic and ability to handle the attention associated with being LeBron’s son.
Those observations suggest the Lakers are evaluating Bronny on qualities beyond his family connections, even as his development remains a subject of considerable public scrutiny.
The discussion also touched on Austin Reaves’ leadership, Dalton Knecht’s struggles, and the team’s confidence in its defensive personnel.
However, the comments about Bronny stand out because they directly address one of the biggest questions surrounding his NBA career.
For the Lakers, believing in Bronny’s potential does not guarantee him a significant role. His opportunities will still depend on his development and ability to contribute consistently, a process he has previously discussed while developing with the Lakers.
Still, the insider’s account suggests Los Angeles sees Bronny as more than a favor to LeBron.
