Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs is eligible to return after being removed from the commissioner’s exempt list following a battery case involving a former girlfriend. As the Packers prepare to face the Detroit Lions in Week 7, NFL insider Ian Rapoport shares the latest update on Jacobs’ availability for the matchup.
Questions remain about whether the NFL will suspend Jacobs, but the 28 year old is currently eligible to play Sunday and appears on track to suit up after returning to practice.

“Obviously, he has been on the commissioner’s exempt list, dealing with a matter involving a significant other,” commented the NFL insider.
“Of course, his legal matter was settled several weeks ago, and at that point, it was really just when would the NFL investigation take place?”
Josh Jacobs imminent return to the Green Bay Packers
Green Bay could benefit from Jacobs’ return, especially with the offense averaging just 59.8 rushing yards per game, the lowest mark in the NFL. During his first season with the Packers, Jacobs totaled 1,329 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. In 2025, the former first round pick added 929 yards and 13 touchdowns across 15 games.
“Would they be able to see a video of the incident? They have not,” Rapoport added.

“I would say Jacobs has been preliminarily cleared and is expected to play this week. He is going to practice. He’s going to be on the field. They say he has kept in good shape, and the Packers, who have had a really solid start to the season, probably could use a little bit of an improved running game, and they get Josh Jacobs in Week 7 to come in and do it.”
The situation remains unresolved, and it is still unclear whether the NFL will impose a suspension on Jacobs.
