The Ministry of SMEs and Startups said on the 14th that it will run a consumption lottery event from the 15th to support spending during the Korea Grand Festival, which opens on the 29th.
The Korea Grand Festival is a nationwide discount event that has combined separate consumption promotions by government ministries since last year to boost domestic demand and regional spending. This year it runs for 18 days, from Oct. 29 to Nov. 15.
Total prize money for the lottery comes to 1.7 billion won, to be paid out to 5,600 people in digital Onnuri gift certificates. Ten first-prize winners will each receive 30 million won. First prizes will be drawn only from participants who earned entries through payments made outside the greater Seoul area. Residents of the greater Seoul area are also eligible for the first-prize draw if they have a record of payment at a participating merchant outside the region.
Second prizes of 2 million won will go to 40 people, third prizes of 1 million won to 850 people and fourth prizes of 100,000 won to 4,700 people. Second through fourth prizes will be drawn without regard to region, and duplicate wins are not allowed. Winners will be notified individually through the Digital Onnuri app in early December, and prize money will be paid during December.
Entries can be earned from the 15th through Nov. 15 by spending a cumulative 30,000 won or more in digital Onnuri gift certificates at offline Onnuri merchants nationwide, including traditional markets and small business stores. Payments in the greater Seoul area earn one entry per 30,000 won spent, while payments elsewhere earn two. Each person can receive up to 30 entries.
Consumers who want to take part can consent to the provision of personal information through the Digital Onnuri app starting at 9 a.m. on the 15th. Entries will be issued based on total spending during the Oct. 15 to Nov. 15 period, regardless of when a participant signs up.
