GS Caltex, a unit of GS Holdings (078930.KS), has won two awards at the London International Awards for "CCU-S," a campaign communicating its low-carbon business.
The company said on the 13th that the campaign took silver in the Creativity in PR category and bronze in the Creative Strategy category at the 2026 London International Awards. Launched in 1986, the awards are one of the world's five largest advertising competitions. Global brands including Heineken, Levi's and KitKat were also honored in the same categories.
GS Caltex designed the campaign to make carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technology, an unfamiliar concept to the general public, easier to grasp. The company produced a hands-on teaching tool called the "CCU-S Kit," which compares carbon gas to flatulence, a subject familiar to children, and turns the process of capturing gas and using it to grow plants into a game. The aim was to help children understand how CCUS technology works.
GS Caltex ran the campaign with the advertising agency Idiot. It released content explaining the science behind CCUS in collaboration with the science creator Gwedo, and also held carbon-reduction education programs for about 500 students at seven elementary schools in Yeosu. Last year, the CCU-S Kit was presented as promotional merchandise at the GS Caltex exhibition hall at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit in Gyeongju.
GS Caltex is moving ahead of a paradigm shift in the energy industry, drawing on the stability of its refining and petrochemical businesses. The company is building a portfolio for sustainable growth by expanding low-carbon businesses such as CCUS, carbon-free steam, biofuels and waste plastic recycling.
"Winning two awards at the London International Awards is meaningful because it recognizes both our brand public relations capabilities and our competitive, publicly accessible creative strategy, which connected a specialized subject such as our low-carbon business to public interest and participation through various customer touchpoints and experiential content," an official at GS Caltex said. "We will continue distinctive communication so that customers and society can easily understand and relate to the value of GS Caltex's businesses and technologies."
