The smartphone runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, paired with RedMagic’s in-house RedCore R5 gaming chip. It offers up to 16GB of LPDDR5T RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 Pro storage. These specifications aim to deliver fast performance for demanding games and other intensive tasks.
RedMagic 12 Pro+ Features a 185Hz AMOLED Display
The RedMagic 12 Pro+ features a 6.85-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1216 x 2688 pixels. The company describes it as the industry’s first 185Hz under-display “true full-screen” display, designed to provide a more immersive viewing and gaming experience.
The screen reaches 1,900 nits in high-brightness mode and up to 5,000 nits at peak brightness. Gorilla Glass 7i protects the display, while its 0.96mm bezels and 96.3% screen-to-body ratio give the phone a nearly uninterrupted front design.
RedMagic has also integrated a ninth-generation 16MP selfie camera beneath the display in collaboration with BOE. This design removes the need for a visible camera cutout. An ultrasonic fingerprint reader is also included.
On the rear, the phone carries a 50MP primary camera with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and 8K video recording support. A 50MP ultrawide camera completes the rear camera setup.
Advanced RGB Liquid-Cooling System
One of the main highlights of the RedMagic 12 Pro+ is its RGB liquid-cooling system. The lighting sits around the circular cooling module on the back and can respond to in-game activity, adding a customisable visual element for gaming enthusiasts.
The phone uses a dual-loop liquid-cooling design that surrounds both the processor and battery. According to RedMagic, its micro-pump is 85% more powerful than the one used in the previous RedMagic 11 Pro+, while consuming as little as 20mW of power.
The cooling system works alongside a built-in fan that can reach speeds of up to 25,500 RPM. The fan carries an IPX8 rating, while the overall thermal setup combines graphene materials, a vapour chamber, and liquid metal. RedMagic describes this arrangement as a five-layer thermal system designed to manage heat during demanding gaming sessions.
Gaming Features and Large Battery
The dedicated RedCore R5 chip supports ray tracing, 2K upscaling, and frame interpolation of up to 185Hz in compatible games. These features are intended to improve visual quality and deliver smoother gameplay.
RedMagic has also upgraded its PC Emulator, allowing users to sign in to Steam and play games from their PC libraries on the smartphone. However, compatibility depends on the individual game.
The device packs an 8,400mAh battery with support for 120W wired charging and 80W wireless charging. It also supports bypass charging, which can power the phone directly during gaming, and 22.5W reverse wired charging for compatible devices.
Design, Software, and Connectivity
The RedMagic 12 Pro+ measures 8.55mm in thickness and weighs 223 grams. Gorilla Glass 7i protects both the front and back, while the phone carries IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance.
It runs RedMagic OS 12 based on Android 17 and includes dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and 700Hz capacitive shoulder triggers for gaming controls.
Other features include an X-axis linear motor, NFC, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, an infrared blaster, and a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port with DisplayPort output.
