The strategic cooperation document with Iran, one can say, is practically agreed upon, we will sign it at the next convenient opportunity. Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan on Friday told this to reporters within the framework of the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, in Yerevan.
“Here, the awareness of both sides that our relations are strategic in one way or another, and the willingness of both sides to also formalize it, put it on paper and sign it in the near future at the possible opportunity is unchanged,” Mirzoyan added.
When asked whether Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is scheduled to visit Iran by the end of the year, the foreign minister replied: “A visit is planned, I cannot say by the end of the year. In general, a visit is always planned in the case of Iran and Armenia. If you have noticed, they are a little busy with other issues in Iran right now, the situation around Iran is not so easy. We [i.e. Iran] are ready to contribute in every possible way to a peaceful resolution, but I think that these issues are a bit beyond the means available to Armenia. I want to say that perhaps we should wait for people to have a little more time to deal with these issues.”
Also, Ararat Mirzoyan assured that there will be separate meetings with the Iranian side within the framework of COP17; in particular, with the Armenian prime minister and president.
