The National Elections Commission has announced vacancies for 10 states and three administrative area returning officers, with applications open from October 14 to October 21, 2026.
The recruitment comes 68 days before South Sudan’s planned general elections on December 22.
In an announcement dated October 14, 2026, and seen by Eye Radio, the Commission said it is seeking to recruit officers to oversee electoral activities in their respective jurisdictions ahead of the planned polls.
Their responsibilities will include coordinating voter registration, voter education, polling arrangements and other electoral activities.
The officers will also be required to maintain accurate electoral records, submit timely progress reports to the High Election Committee and the Commission, and report electoral incidents, complaints, irregularities and security concerns through established legal and administrative channels.
The announcement comes as preparations continue for the December elections, with questions remaining about the timeline for completing key electoral activities.
Eye Radio contacted the Commission’s communication officer, George Lemi, who confirmed the vacancy announcement.
However, Lemi was unable to respond to questions about the timing of the recruitment, saying he was attending a workshop.
The Commission has yet to respond to Eye Radio’s questions about why the recruitment is taking place at this stage of the electoral process.
