KWAZULU NATAL — Two men were killed and a third seriously wounded in a targeted shooting at the Parkgate taxi rank in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday morning, 13 October 2026.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to the scene after multiple gunshots were heard in the area. Witnesses also reported seeing a grey vehicle fleeing shortly after the shooting.
Victims identified at the scene
Upon arrival, RUSA officers confirmed that a taxi boss and the owner of a nearby informal food stall had been fatally shot. A second taxi boss was discovered seated inside a white Nissan bakkie, suffering multiple gunshot wounds to his abdomen.
RUSA paramedics stabilised him at the scene before transporting him to a medical facility.
The survivor told investigators that he and his fellow taxi boss had been sitting with the food stall owner inside the stall, as they regularly did, when an unidentified grey vehicle drew up. The vehicle's occupants then opened fire on the three men without warning.
Two rifle cartridge casings and one projectile were recovered at the scene, pointing to the use of a high-calibre firearm in the attack. No arrests had been made at the time of reporting, and the motive for the shooting had not been established.
