Hyundai Mobis is fully expanding its global open innovation strategy, which had been focused on Silicon Valley in North America, to the Asian market.
Hyundai Mobis held 'Mobis Mobility Day (MMD)' on Oct. 14 in Shanghai, China, inviting promising local companies, finished vehicle manufacturers, and investment institutions. Around 300 local industry officials attended the event, which was held under the theme of robotics and physical AI, showing high interest in the technological direction of Hyundai Mobis.
The reason Hyundai Mobis selected Shanghai, China as the new hub for open innovation is clear. The 'Yangtze River Delta' region, which includes Shanghai, not only has excellent manufacturing infrastructure and supply chain capabilities, but also has a high concentration of research and development clusters, making it optimally conditioned for finding excellent partner companies.
A large number of Chinese finished vehicle officials, executives of major companies leading the robotics industry, and responsible operators of global investment institutions gathered at the event venue. In particular, as the news of Hyundai Mobis winning orders for humanoid actuators revealed earlier this year became known, it is understood that meeting requests from local officials followed one after another.
The open innovation of Hyundai Mobis proceeds in three stages. First, it discovers partner companies with excellent new technologies, and then goes through a proof of concept (PoC) process through joint or independent technology development. After that, it achieves final commercialization through strategic cooperation.
Hyundai Mobis plans to accelerate securing a global robotics innovation network based on the results of this Shanghai event.
