LAHORE: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has warned that no leniency will be shown to those making speeches against the state and inciting people to stand against the government.
Addressing a press conference alongside National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) officials in Lahore, Mohsin Naqvi said attempts were made to provoke unrest and public protests following the imposition of emergency and Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said cases had been registered against those involved in inciting people, adding that more cases would also be registered.
Mohsin Naqvi warns citizens against online blackmail
Speaking about cybercrime, the interior minister urged citizens not to send money to unknown people who demand it online.
He also advised people against sharing personal photographs with others, warning that women who share their pictures can later become victims of blackmail.
Mohsin Naqvi said the NCCIA frequently received complaints involving the blackmail of women.
He warned that anyone involved in harassment would face action, regardless of whether the person was a government employee or belonged to any other sector.
NCCIA to get more staff and resources
The interior minister said the government planned to increase the number of NCCIA employees and provide the agency with additional resources.
He said the agency currently had only 61 personnel across Punjab, adding that its workforce would be expanded and its capacity strengthened.
Mohsin Naqvi said the government would fully support efforts to make the cybercrime police more active.
He also said the NCCIA had recently arrested a suspect wanted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The agency had also arrested suspects involved in pornography-related cases, he added.
