Guwahati, Oct 17: With Assam Police intensifying anti-drug operations, particularly through the Special Task Force (STF), drug traffickers are frequently changing routes and engaging women and even children to transport contraband.
More than 32,000 persons have been arrested in connection with drug trafficking in Assam from 2011 to July this year, while drugs worth Rs 3,054 crore were seized during the period, according to available records. The success of police operations has increased considerably recently. Drugs worth Rs 668 crore were seized in 2024 and Rs 476 crore in 2025. The seizures amounted to Rs 322.7 crore as of July this year.
Sustained police operations have led to a shortage of drugs in the market and a sharp rise in prices. Many addicts are also turning to rehabilitation centres.
