Riyadh – Two ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi group were intercepted and destroyed, coinciding with a series of interceptions of missiles and drones targeting the Kingdom.
The official spokesman for the Civil Defense stated that teams responded to debris falling in the governorates of Khamis Mushait and Ahad Rafidah. He noted that the incident also resulted in material damage to three residential buildings and seven vehicles, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
He added that the standard procedures for dealing with such incidents were implemented.
Earlier on Sunday, Saudi Arabia announced the interception of 10 ballistic missiles, a cruise missile, and two drones launched by the Houthis from Yemen in less than 12 hours.
It stated that the 10 ballistic missiles were launched towards the southern region. There were also reports of the interception of a ballistic missile targeting Riyadh and another targeting Khamis Mushait, but it was unclear whether these were included in the announced tally.
An AFP journalist reported hearing three explosions in Riyadh in the early hours of Sunday morning, after residents received warning messages on their mobile phones alerting them to an "air threat" and urging them to take shelter.
On Saturday, Saudi Arabia announced it had intercepted three ballistic missiles targeting Riyadh, Taif, and Yanbu, as well as a drone in one of the provinces of the Eastern Province.
These developments coincided with preparations to resume operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, after nearly two weeks of suspended operations.
The airport announced that Terminal 1 would be dedicated to domestic flights and Terminal 2 to international flights operated by national carriers, starting Sunday. Passengers with confirmed bookings were advised to contact their airlines to check the status of their flights before traveling.
On Saturday, the Houthis claimed responsibility for attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, while media outlets affiliated with the group reported that Saudi forces had launched airstrikes on Sana'a and other areas in Yemen.
