Colombo, Oct. 12 (Daily Mirror) - Heavy rainfall of up to 150 mm is expected in several provinces as a low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeastern Bay of Bengal by October 13, the Department of Meteorology has warned.
Under the influence of the developing system, rainfall is expected to increase across the island and in the deep and shallow sea areas around Sri Lanka over the next few days, beginning tomorrow (13).
According to the department, showers or thundershowers are expected in most parts of the island, with heavy falls of between 100 mm and 150 mm likely at some locations in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and Southern provinces.
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is also expected at some locations in other parts of the country.
The department has urged the public, as well as naval and fishing communities, to remain alert to future weather forecasts and advisories issued in connection with the developing system.
As such, the public has also been advised to take adequate precautions against possible damage caused by temporary, localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Meanwhile, misty conditions may occur at some locations in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the early hours of the morning.
