Jet2 passengers flying from the UK can drop off their hold luggage the evening before an early flight, giving holidaymakers a way to avoid one of the usual airport queues before setting off on their trip.
The airline’s free Twilight Check-in service operates between 4.30pm and 9pm on the evening before eligible morning departures. Passengers who complete the process can head straight to airport security the following day, rather than visiting the check-in desk to hand over their suitcases. Although the service is not new, it could prove useful for British holidaymakers and expats travelling to Spain who face an early start to catch their flight.
Which Jet2 passengers can use evening check-in?
Jet2 offers Twilight Check-in at 12 participating UK airports: Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow International, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, London Gatwick, London Luton, London Stansted, Manchester and Newcastle.
Flights must be scheduled to depart before midday, and passengers must have checked in online beforehand. According to Jet2’s official Twilight Check-in guidance, online check-in opens 28 days before departure and must be completed no later than 24 hours before the flight to use the evening bag-drop service. No separate booking is required, and there is no additional charge for using the facility.
How does the 4.5-hour check-in window work?
Passengers can take their hold luggage to the airline’s usual check-in desks between 4.30pm and 9pm on the evening before departure. One person can drop off bags for up to six passengers travelling under the same booking reference, provided they bring everyone’s boarding passes, passports and any required travel documents.
Groups of seven to nine passengers need two people to attend the airport to check in the bags, while groups of ten or more must check in individually. Hand luggage does not need to be taken to the airport the evening before. Passengers can keep their cabin bags with them and bring them on the flight as usual.
Once the hold luggage has been checked in, travellers can return home or spend the night near the airport before their early departure. But, as well, the danger of oversleeping and missing the flight, is much greater.
What happens on the morning of the flight?
Passengers who have used Twilight Check-in can head directly to security when they return to the airport, saving them from having to queue at the check-in desks to drop off their suitcases.
Jet2 says the service is available seven days a week at the participating airports, although it is not available for UK departures on December 25 and 26. Travellers should check their individual flight details and airport arrangements before setting off, particularly if they have special baggage or mobility equipment.
Could the service help British travellers to Spain?
For British expats who regularly travel between the UK and Spain, avoiding an early-morning check-in queue could make the start of a journey easier, particularly when travelling with children or several suitcases. The service applies to eligible flights departing from participating UK airports. It is not a general evening-before bag-drop facility for Jet2 flights departing from Malaga, Alicante or other Spanish airports.
Jet2 has also published advice on making airport journeys easier, including tips for passengers hoping to save time before boarding. Holidaymakers should check the airline’s official Twilight Check-in page before travelling to confirm eligibility, opening times and the documents required.
