KUALA LUMPUR: The local theatre scene is set for a lively boost with the return of Tok Bidan Somah 2 – Extended Version (TBS2-EV), taking place on Nov 1 at the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) Auditorium.
Following a successful first run in July, the production is back with brand-new scenes and a cast of popular TV drama actors.
Brought to life by Tamu Lestari Solutions, the play aims to revive traditional Malay storytelling, cultural etiquette, and time-honoured customs.
It also celebrates inclusivity by featuring a diverse cast—including performers with disabilities (OKU) and senior citizens—alongside a dynamic display from Persatuan Silat Gayong Malaysia.
Multi-talented artiste Rozita Rohaizad, daughter of screen legend Mariani, makes her long-awaited return to the stage in the lead role of Tok Bidan Somah.
Set in Kampung Sirusa, the story follows Somah as she deals with the continuous schemes of her rival, Sujenah (played by Dahliati Alirudin). Driven by the trouble and rumours sparked by Sujenah and her husband Jamlid, the play delivers an emotional, heart-wrenching story filled with moral lessons and artistic flair.
Directed by Nelly Ahmad, the show also stars Aufa Aziz as the young Somah.
Speaking about the production, Nelly said: "We hope that this performance will attract people of various races to witness the beauty of traditional Malay culture. Our goal is not merely to entertain, but to provide a meaningful educational experience for both the audience and the performing artistes."
