ⓘ Qnap
Qnap has introduced two affordable switches for home networks running 10GbE and 2.5GbE at 10Gbps and 2.5Gbps, respectively. The QSW-L2110-10T and QSW-L2110-2S8T each offer eight ports for local devices and two uplink ports.

Qnap has announced two new switches for fast data transfers over wired local networks. The QSW-L2110-10T and QSW-L2110-2S8T each feature eight 2.5GbE RJ45 ports (802.3bz, NBASE-T, multigigabit) and two 10GbE ports (802.3an) for connections between switches. The two models differ in their 10GbE connections. The -10T uses standard copper RJ45 ports, both of which support multigigabit speeds. They can also run at 5GbE or 2.5GbE to accommodate longer cable runs. Their power consumption is listed at 18 watts.
The -2S8T instead has two slots for SFP+ transceivers or a direct attach cable (DAC), allowing connections via fiber or SFP+ modules with RJ45 ports. At 12W, it consumes less power, although that figure excludes any installed Mini-GBIC modules.
Both switches are also suitable for modern Wi-Fi networks, where speeds, particularly over short distances, have increased to the point that standard 1GbE connections can struggle to keep up. Moreover, both models are classified as "Lite Managed" and offer limited configuration options. They do support LACP for aggregating ports to increase bandwidth, as well as VLANs. This makes them suitable for small offices and more demanding home users. With relatively few settings to learn, configuration through the web interface should be straightforward.
These new Qnap switches operate silently and use an external power supply. The QSW-L2110-10T costs $179, while the QSW-L2110-2S8T is priced at $129 in the US. Both are already available for purchase at Qnap's official US online store.

My fascination for technology goes back a long way to the Pentium II era. Modding, overclocking and treasuring computer hardware has since become an integral part of my life. As a student, I further developed a keen interest in mobile technologies that can make the stressful college life so much easier. After I fell in love with the creation of digital content while working in a marketing position, I now scour the web to bring you the most exciting topics in the world of tech. Outside the office, I’m particularly passionate about motorsports and mountain biking.
