Just over six weeks after the American Diabetes Association said its review of an incident at its New Orleans meeting in June would need more time, one of its top leaders is out.
Rita Kalyani, chief scientific and medical officer, “is no longer in her role, effective immediately,” Tuesday’s notice from the ADA said. “We thank Dr. Kalyani for her dedication to the ADA’s mission over the years,” CEO Charles Henderson said.
The organization has been in some turmoil since June 5, when five members were escorted out by armed security officers for handing out an April editorial, published in the ADA’s journal Diabetes Care, that voiced alarm over cuts to federal research funding.
