The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Sunday said its campaign against illegal firearms resulted in the confiscation of 86 guns and the arrest of 83 individuals from October 15 to 21 across Metro Manila.
In a statement, the NCRPO said its five police districts undertook 81 operations. NCRPO Officer-in-Charge P/Brigadier General Christopher N. Abrahano said the campaign will continue, following an October 22 encounter in Western Bicutan, Taguig City, where two armed suspects died after engaging police officers in a shootout during an Oplan Sita operation.
The recovered firearms were subjected to further investigation, including ballistic examination, to determine whether they may be linked to other criminal activities.
Abrahano ordered all police districts to sustain Oplan Bakal and Oplan Sita as part of efforts to strengthen police visibility in crime-prone areas and seize illegal firearms.
“Our campaign against illegal firearms will be relentless. We will not allow these weapons to circulate unchecked in our communities and become instruments of robbery, shootings, and other violent crimes. I expect every police district to sustain its operations, pursue every validated lead, and hold those who illegally possess firearms accountable under the law. Every weapon we lawfully take off the streets is a step toward preventing violence and protecting lives,” he said. —RF, GMA News
