US-listed crypto funds posted some of their heaviest weekly withdrawals this year, while XRP-linked products reportedly held steady.
Spot Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds listed in the United States lost more than $1.2 billion in investor capital over the course of a week, according to data cited by CryptoBriefing and Cryptopolitan. CryptoBriefing put the figure at $1.22 billion, while Cryptopolitan reported withdrawals of $1.25 billion over the same period. The modest difference likely reflects timing of the data snapshots or methodology, but both accounts point to a sizable pullback.
The outflows mark one of the larger weekly declines recorded since spot Bitcoin ETFs began trading in the US in January 2024, followed later that year by spot Ethereum products. Those funds had, for much of their existence, attracted steady net inflows from institutional and retail investors seeking regulated exposure to digital assets without directly holding the underlying coins.
A week of heavy redemptions does not necessarily signal a structural shift in demand. ETF flows can swing sharply in response to short-term market conditions, including volatility in spot prices, shifts in interest rate expectations, or profit-taking after periods of gains. Analysts typically caution against reading too much into any single week of data without additional context on subsequent flows.
Notably, Cryptopolitan reported that XRP-linked exchange-traded products did not participate in the broader exodus. While Bitcoin and Ethereum funds saw redemptions, XRP vehicles reportedly avoided the same pattern of withdrawals during the same stretch. This divergence, if it persists, would mark a departure from the broader risk-off sentiment apparently affecting the two largest crypto funds by assets.
The scale of the withdrawals is significant given how central ETF flows have become to crypto market narratives. Since their launch, spot Bitcoin and Ethereum funds have been treated by many market participants as a proxy for institutional sentiment. Large, sustained inflows have often coincided with price strength, while outflows have been associated with periods of caution or broader macro uncertainty.
It remains unclear from the available reporting whether the outflows were concentrated in a handful of large funds or spread evenly across issuers. Neither report specified which individual ETF providers saw the largest redemptions, nor did they break down the split between Bitcoin-focused and Ethereum-focused products within the combined total. Additional data in coming weeks should clarify whether this represents a short-term adjustment or the start of a longer trend.
Market Impact
Weekly outflows of this size can weigh on short-term sentiment, particularly if they coincide with broader caution toward risk assets. Since spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs serve as a visible gauge of institutional appetite, sustained redemptions could prompt further scrutiny of positioning among larger asset managers and pension-style allocators who have used these vehicles for exposure.
The apparent resilience of XRP-linked products, as reported by Cryptopolitan, suggests that investor behavior is not uniform across the crypto ETF landscape. If that divergence continues, it could indicate that capital is rotating between different crypto assets rather than exiting the sector altogether. Market participants will likely watch subsequent weekly flow data closely for confirmation of either scenario.
The reported $1.22 billion to $1.25 billion weekly outflow underscores how quickly sentiment can shift within crypto ETF markets. Whether this proves a temporary pause or the start of a broader retreat will depend on flow patterns in the weeks ahead.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much money left spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs in the week in question?
CryptoBriefing reported outflows of $1.22 billion, while Cryptopolitan reported $1.25 billion for the same week. Both figures reflect combined withdrawals from spot Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds.
Did all crypto ETFs see outflows during this period?
According to Cryptopolitan, XRP-linked exchange-traded products did not join the broader withdrawal trend affecting Bitcoin and Ethereum funds during the same week.
Does a single week of ETF outflows indicate a longer-term trend?
Not necessarily. ETF flows can be volatile week to week, influenced by price swings, macroeconomic data, and short-term trading behavior. Analysts generally look at multiple weeks of data before drawing conclusions about sustained shifts in investor demand.
Why do spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF flows matter to the broader market?
These funds are widely viewed as a proxy for institutional interest in crypto assets. Significant inflows or outflows are often interpreted as signals of changing sentiment among larger investors, even though they do not directly set spot prices.
