An electrical fire in a building in the Theater Distict killed one man and left a second victim in stable condition Saturday morning, officials said.
The blaze broke out on the top floor of a five-story apartment building on West 49th Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues in Hell’s Kitchen around 11:15 a.m., officials said.
Seventy-nine FDNY and EMS personnel responded to the blaze, which fire marshals deemed accidential, officials said.
Two civilians were rescued from the fire and rushed to NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in critical condition. One of them died and the other was later upgraded to stable condition, officials said.
The identity of the dead person wasn’t immediately released.
The building was constructed in the early 1900’s, according to online reports.
