WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will allow users to create and share sound stickers. The feature has appeared in a beta version of the Meta-owned messaging application, according to a report. It could expand the platform’s existing sticker-sharing options.
WhatsApp already offers sticker packs and tools for creating stickers from personal photos and videos. However, the reported update would let users attach audio to their creations. This addition could provide another way to express messages through chats.

According to the report, users will see a new sound wave icon in the toolbar when creating a sticker from an image. Tapping the icon will allow them to select an audio file stored on their phone. Alternatively, they will be able to record their own voice for the sticker.
The report states that users will be able to record audio clips lasting up to 10 seconds for individual sound stickers. Once shared in a chat, the sticker will display a volume icon. Recipients can tap that icon to play the attached audio.
The feature will also support animated stickers created from videos. WhatsApp will automatically include five seconds of audio from the original video file, according to the report. Users will also have the option to replace that sound with another audio file or a recording of their own voice.

The reported feature could make sticker conversations more interactive by combining visuals with sound. It would also give users more flexibility when creating personalised content. However, the feature was spotted in a beta version, and the report did not confirm a public release date.
WhatsApp continues to offer users different ways to personalise conversations through multimedia tools. If the sound sticker feature reaches a wider release, users could create stickers using images, animations and short audio clips. Further details about its availability may emerge as testing progresses.
