The 2026 Grenlec Debates move into the quarter-finals, with 8 schools remaining. Reaching this stage is an achievement for each school. Debaters have stepped forward, challenging ideas, defending arguments and thinking on their feet.
Importantly, the impromptu format challenges debaters to take what they know, apply it to a motion they’ve only just received, and develop an argument independently in just 30 minutes. This tests not only their knowledge, but also their confidence, adaptability and ability to communicate under pressure.
The quarter-finals will focus on Sport, exploring opportunities for young Caribbean athletes, the balance between academics and athletics, and the role of sport in regional identity and development.
The 8 quarter-finalists are:
- MacDonald College
- Presentation Brothers’ College
- St Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School
- St David’s Catholic Secondary School
- St Joseph’s Convent, Grenville
- St Joseph’s Convent, St George’s
- The St George’s Institute
- Westerhall Secondary School
The 2026 Grenlec Debates are broadcast on television, with matches also available on Grenlec’s YouTube channel.
