Australian U20 international Musa Toure's first goal for Macarthur FC has secured the Bulls a 1-1 draw against A-League Men's premiers Newcastle at McDonald Jones Stadium.
The Jets had to settle for a point in their first home match of the season, ahead of a midweek trip to Japan to continue their Asian Champions League campaign, after Xavier Bertoncello's fifth-minute strike had given them an early lead on Saturday afternoon.
Second-best in the opening half, Macarthur turned to their bench and it was Ryan Fraser and off-season recruit Toure who combined to level the scores in the 70th minute.
Fraser, who played a key role as a substitute in the Bulls' 2-1 win over Perth last time out, was influential again as he released Toure who took one touch before firing past Newcastle goalkeeper James Delianov with the visitor's first shot on target.
The result was a disappointing one for Jets coach Mark Milligan after the home team were by far the better outfit in the opening half and means they are now winless in their past seven competitive matches.
Bertoncello gave them an early lead, cutting past two Bulls defenders from the left wing before powering a shot from the edge of the area.
Zach Clough was dangerous for the home side throughout the opening 45 minutes, while Nikos Vergos missed a golden chance in the 29th minute when Macarthur goalkeeper Alex Robinson denied the Greek forward from close range.
"Goals change games," Milligan told Paramount Plus.
"You need to capitalise. We've been through this before as a team.
"We're right there. We're right on the edge of what we want.
"We'll look at it. We'll grow from it. And, like I said, we're not far away from where we need to be."
Macarthur could have snatched all three points with their improved second-half performance, with Fraser running clear before being denied by Delianov late in the contest, but in the end were content with a point.
