SEOUL, Oct. 14 (Yonhap) -- Foreign Minister Cho Hyun on Wednesday requested the South Sudanese government to continue supporting the safety of South Korean troops and nationals in the African country, the foreign ministry said.
Cho made the request during a meeting with Adut Salva Kiir Mayardit, a special envoy of South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit, in Seoul, according to the ministry. The two also discussed development cooperation, regional affairs and other issues.
South Korea's Hanbit Unit has been deployed to South Sudan since 2013 as part of a U.N. peacekeeping mission and has contributed to infrastructure development, including the maintenance and repair of roads and airport runways.

Cho welcomed Kiir's visit and expressed hope for continued bilateral cooperation. The minister also called for continued cooperation in the international arena, including in elections to international organizations.
