After a three-week dry spell, Andhra Pradesh may experience rainy days from October 15 as a low-pressure zone is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal on October 13.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, there is an upper-air cyclonic circulation over the South Andaman Sea. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the Southeast Bay of Bengal.
This may bring light to moderate showers across north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema from October 15 to 19, with isolated heavy rainfall likely in the coastal districts on October 16, 17 and 18, and in Rayalaseema on October 16 and 17.
Along with rains, the State may also see thunderstorms and strong winds, with speeds reaching up to 50 kmph.
The overall rainfall deficit in the State came down during the last week of September after many districts received heavy rainfall due to the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal. With the three-week dry spell that followed, the deficit percentages are on the rise again.
The overall deficit has climbed to 41.7%, with all the districts in the State reporting deficient rainfall. The steepest rainfall deficit is reported by Prakasam district, at 66.2%.
On a side note, the IMD said conditions are becoming favourable for further withdrawal of the South-West Monsoon from remaining parts of the country, and simultaneous commencement of northeast monsoon rains over the Southern Peninsula during in the next three days.
