Kuwaiti charity organisations are expanding their humanitarian reach across vulnerable communities overseas, combining emergency relief with long-term investments in housing, healthcare, education and access to safe water. Through projects designed to address both immediate needs and the underlying challenges facing disadvantaged communities, these initiatives are helping families secure essential services and build more stable futures.
Kuwait’s contribution to international humanitarian work is reflected in the efforts of its charitable institutions, philanthropists and official authorities, whose support has helped turn the country’s longstanding tradition of generosity into practical projects across several countries. Under the “Kuwait Stands by You” campaign, initiatives extending from Benin to Tanzania and Kyrgyzstan demonstrate how Kuwaiti assistance is reaching people in need while supporting the foundations of sustainable development and human dignity.
In Benin, Ataa Humanitarian Association has delivered food assistance and healthcare support to communities facing financial hardship and rising living costs. The initiatives have benefited around 1,000 people through relief assistance, while healthcare programmes have covered approximately 400 patients. The association’s delegation also inspected 46 mosques built by the organisation, serving around 6,900 worshippers.
Dr. Omar Al-Shaqraa, the association’s director general, told KUNA that relief efforts included distributing food baskets to help low-income families meet their daily needs and ease their living burdens. Healthcare assistance included medicines, nutritional supplements and essential medical supplies for around 400 beneficiaries, particularly people suffering from malnutrition.
The initiative also involved the association’s Resources Director, Ahmad Al-Buraiki, and sought to ease hardship, improve health conditions and expand access to essential care. The combination of food assistance and medical support reflects an approach aimed at addressing immediate household needs while helping vulnerable people access basic services.
In Tanzania’s Zanzibar region, Namaa Charity, affiliated with the Social Reform Society, joined Bahrain’s KAF Humanitarian Foundation to inaugurate Namaa Secondary School. The institution is intended to widen access to education for children in underserved communities, strengthen their capabilities and provide opportunities for a better future.
Khaled Al-Shammari, head of the Programs and Initiatives Sector at Namaa Charity, told KUNA that the school reflected the organisation’s view of education as a central driver of sustainable development and an investment in people, whom he described as the true wealth of communities.
The school comprises nine rooms, including five classrooms, along with laboratories and educational facilities designed to support an environment that combines academic learning with practical application. By expanding educational infrastructure, the project aims to give students greater opportunities to develop the knowledge and skills needed for their future.
In Kyrgyzstan, Al-Safa Humanitarian Charity Association has undertaken a broader development programme combining housing, healthcare, water infrastructure and religious facilities. The projects include three residential villages comprising approximately 275 homes, alongside medical facilities, water networks and mosques in several provinces.
Association Chairman Mohammad Al-Shaya told KUNA that the housing projects included a village of 100 homes and another of around 75 homes in Naryn Region, as well as a third village comprising 100 homes in another area. Kuwaiti philanthropists funded the projects, which are intended to provide families with safer and more stable living conditions.
Healthcare infrastructure has also formed a key part of the association’s work. Projects included the inauguration of a specialised hospital and a medical clinic equipped with essential supplies and facilities. The clinic has an emergency department and serves an area with a population of approximately 15,000, in addition to residents of neighbouring villages. Another clinic was inaugurated in a separate area to extend healthcare coverage and bring medical services closer to local communities.
Access to clean water has been another priority. Al-Safa inaugurated water networks in villages surrounding the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, and in Osh Region to improve access to safe and sustainable water supplies. The projects address a basic community need while complementing the association’s housing and healthcare initiatives.
Al-Shaya said the range of projects reflected the association’s aim of moving beyond immediate relief towards building the foundations for stability and sustainable development. Housing, medical services and water infrastructure can collectively help communities meet essential needs and improve living conditions over the longer term.
Together, the initiatives in Benin, Tanzania and Kyrgyzstan illustrate the breadth of Kuwait’s charitable engagement overseas.
