Afternoon thunderstorms through Saturday, with highs dropping starting Sunday
HAVANA TIMES – A frontal trough near Cuba’s northwestern coast brought light to moderate rainfall to Havana on Tuesday, following several days of dry, stable weather under the influence of high pressure. Easterly and northeasterly winds will maintain humid and unstable conditions over western Cuba, while daytime heating will favor the development of clouds and afternoon thunderstorms in coastal and inland areas of Havana.
On Thursday the 15th and Friday the 16th, isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected. Rainfall will become more frequent on Saturday the 17th, while Sunday the 18th is forecast to be the most unsettled day of the week, with persistent cloud cover and rain that could continue into the evening. On Monday the 19th, Tuesday the 20th, and Wednesday the 21st, occasional showers and thunderstorms will continue.
Winds will blow predominantly from the east and northeast at speeds of 10 to 25 kilometers per hour (6 to 16 mph), with stronger gusts during thunderstorms. Relative humidity will remain high, ranging from 70% to 95%. High temperatures will range from 29 to 33°C (84 to 91°F), with the warmest readings at the beginning of the forecast period, while lows will be 24 and 25°C (75 to 77°F). Sea surface temperatures will remain near 29°C (84°F).
According to the National Hurricane Center’s (NHC) tropical weather outlook issued at 2:00 a.m. EDT on October 14, no tropical cyclone formation is expected in the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, or Gulf of Mexico over the next seven days. Cuba’s Institute of Meteorology (Insmet) likewise forecasts no tropical cyclone development in the region, meaning there is no tropical threat to Cuba. Insmet continues its routine monitoring during the hurricane season, which remains active through November 30.
