Colombo, Oct. 19 (Daily Mirror) - Five more suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting of the tusker Kavantissa and other alleged illegal activities in the area, the Ministry of Environment said.
The arrests were made during a joint operation conducted by the Department of Wildlife Conservation, the Panadura Walana Central Anti-Corruption Task Force and the police.
Investigations have revealed that the main suspect arrested earlier is directly linked to the shooting of Kavantissa, according to the Ministry.
The five newly arrested suspects are also suspected of involvement in other illegal activities in the area.
Wildlife officers and Galgamuwa Police are questioning the suspects as investigations continue to determine whether an organised network involved in the illegal use of firearms and activities targeting wildlife was operating in the area, the Ministry's Media Unit said.
