ISLAMABAD: Opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai has questioned the whereabouts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister and eight missing members of the National Assembly, while demanding free and fair elections and the right of lawmakers to speak in Parliament, RY News reported
Addressing the National Assembly, Achakzai said the government had ended an elected provincial government’s tenure and questioned the circumstances surrounding the current political situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“Eight MNAs are missing. Tell us where the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is,” he said.
Achakzai said the opposition did not want to trouble anyone but wanted the government to ensure free and fair elections.
“We don’t want anything from you. Just hold free and fair elections,” he said.
He also stressed that issuing production orders for lawmakers was the responsibility of the speaker, even if a member was accused of committing a serious crime.
“Even if your member commits the worst crime, issuing their production orders is your duty,” Achakzai said.
He further said that no member should face arrest or action for something said during proceedings in the assembly.
Questioning restrictions on lawmakers, Achakzai said members were not even being allowed to speak in the House.
“You don’t even let us speak here. Make whatever laws you want, but you will have to face the consequences,” he said.
Achakzai also referred to Sanaullah Mastikhel and Kundi, who were present in the assembly, and urged the authorities to allow other lawmakers to speak as well.
His remarks focused on the missing lawmakers, the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, parliamentary rights and the need for free and fair elections.
