Kathmandu, October 16
The Nepal Electricity Authority has begun preparations to ensure there is no interruption to electricity supply during Dashain.
To ensure reliable, regular and quality supply for consumers, the Authority has instructed distribution centres across the country to stay in a state of readiness.
Industrial and commercial activity declines during Dashain. However, consumption patterns differ across households, religious sites, markets and public places. For this reason, the Authority has made safe and reliable operation of the power system a priority.
Today, Executive Director Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha and Rajan Dhakal, head of the Distribution and Customer Service Directorate, held a virtual meeting with the heads of provincial and province division offices and distribution centres. They instructed them to make all necessary preparations so that supply is not disrupted throughout the Dashain period.
Executive Director Shrestha instructed that technical teams be kept on standby, so that if any interruption does occur, repairs can be made immediately and service restored.
He also directed that any remaining inspection and maintenance of transmission lines and the distribution system be completed immediately, to reduce possible disruptions to supply.
Staff have also been instructed to answer calls received on the “No Light” service and to make complaint management more effective, so that supply-related complaints during Dashain are addressed immediately.
Office heads have been told to mobilise technical teams immediately if problems arise in the electricity supply and to arrange for service to be restored as quickly as possible.
The Authority is continuously monitoring electricity demand and supply and is taking the necessary precautions to prevent problems in the power system.
Relevant offices and technical teams have been mobilised with the necessary coordination and preparation to keep supply regular throughout Dashain.
The Authority has also urged consumers to use electricity safely during the festival. It has asked them to check the condition of household electrical appliances and wiring, to avoid substandard electrical materials, and, if they notice leakage or wiring problems, not to repair them themselves but to have a skilled technician do it.
Consumers with supply problems or complaints are asked to contact their nearest distribution centre or the relevant “No Light” service.
