Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday denied a claim as “manipulation” that the country had allegedly eased visa rules for Pakistani citizens.
“Visa requirements for Pakistani citizens remain unchanged. The information being circulated can be regarded as an attempt to manipulate the issue,” the ministry said.
The claim, shared widely on social media, first appeared on a Pakistani news website and on social media, where it was attributed to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The reports were based on a statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry announcing a meeting between Lithuanian and Pakistani diplomats.
Ayesha Ali, Pakistan’s ambassador and foreign secretary for European affairs, did meet Lithuania’s Deputy Foreign Minister Vidmantas Verbickas.
However, the agendas published by both ministries show that easing visa procedures was not discussed.
The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry stressed that changes to visa requirements were not discussed during the consultations and no decisions were taken.
