The revelation came during a candid appearance on the popular American podcast Drink Champs, where Kartel, born Adidja Palmer, spoke openly about his relationship with Tanesha "Shorty" Johnson.
The two had been together long before his rise to fame and fortune, and she remained a visible pillar of support throughout much of his 13-year incarceration.

"I've been with her since before I got famous and rich. But I mean, like I said, you see, prison is dangerous. Because you know when you go to prison, gets weird. And like I said, she held it for years. And then she couldn't hold it anymore," Kartel said.
Despite the hurt, he was quick to acknowledge her loyalty during the years she did stand firm, recalling how she handled financial matters and kept things moving on his behalf while he remained locked up.
"I still respect her. Because I understand human beings. I'm sure she loved me. Because she rode with me. Even when she was slacking, I could still jump on my phone in prison. Jordy, go to the bank. Jordy, make sure the lawyer gets that. Pay this bill give this person money and she was there right through," he explained.
Kartel admitted the news sent him to tears inside his cell, but his reaction to the betrayal surprised many who followed his story. Rather than anger, he chose understanding.
"But come on, I'm in prison for 30 years. What do you expect her to do? But I forgave her immediately because I understand. But I just had to move on," he said.
As for how the information reached him, the Jamaican star did not hold back.
"The other baby mum that told me, the snitch... kidding," he quipped.
Kartel was originally handed a 35-year sentence, later reduced, for the murder of Clive "Lizard" Williams before his release in August 2024. Tanesha reportedly maintained their relationship publicly throughout the ordeal, though the private realities were clearly more complicated.
Since regaining his freedom, Kartel has moved forward in both his personal and professional life. He is currently engaged to Sidem Öztürk, a Turkish woman who supported him following his release and played a significant role in his recovery and return to health.
