Quarterback Matthew Stafford is on the doorstep of NFL history, and with the Los Angeles Rams playing as badly as they have this season, he could walk through the door very soon.
Stafford sits with a career record of 122-122-1 in the regular season in what is his 18th year in the NFL.
With one more loss, Stafford will tie the NFL record for the most regular-season losses for a quarterback, and with two more defeats he will break that all-time mark.
The current leader in the loss column among NFL quarterbacks all time is Vinny Testaverde, who lost 123 games during his career.

It took Testaverde 21 seasons to get there, although he did have injury-shortened campaigns during his career otherwise he would’ve gotten there a lot sooner.
Stafford has also dealt with injuries during his career that have shortened some of his seasons. The star quarterback has played in fewer than 15 games four times.
A huge chunk of Stafford’s career losses came during his days with the Detroit Lions, where he racked up 90 defeats over 12 years there. Stafford has lost 32 games in six seasons with the Rams.
Despite Stafford being set to break this undesirable record, he is still well on his way to the Hall of Fame once his career is over.
A nightmare 2026 season
After all of the additions they made during the offseason, the Rams were widely viewed as the Super Bowl favorites going into the 2026 season.
However, Los Angeles has looked nothing like a Super Bowl contender with a 2-4 record after six weeks.
Injuries have played a role in that, with Myles Garrett, the team’s big-ticket acquisition in the offseason, appearing in just one game due to injury.
Puka Nacua and Aaron Donald have also missed multiple games, and now the Rams are set to be without Davante Adams for what is expected to be around six to 10 weeks.

But injuries haven’t been the only issue. The Rams simply aren’t playing good football.
Stafford in particular has seen struggles, with the Rams signal-caller toss multiple picks in two games this season, and six overall. To compare, Stafford threw eight picks in each of the past two seasons, so he’s well on his way to surpassing that mark.
The result has been Los Angeles losing four games much sooner than anyone expected, and that has Stafford approaching the aforementioned record faster.
