Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Tanner Bibee made 33 starts during the 2026 regular season. He even started Opening Day for Cleveland. In the MLB postseason, Bibee made just one total appearance out of the bullpen, surrendering two runs while recording just one out. So, is Bibee still considered a part of Cleveland’s future after his shockingly low postseason usage?
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt was asked about Bibee while speaking to reporters on Thursday. Vogt addressed both Bibee’s 2026 season and his future with the ball club.
“You look at Tanner Bibee’s year, we have to consider a lot of different components,” Vogt told reporters, via Mason Horodyski of News 5 Cleveland. “Opening day starter, he was the rock. He took the ball over 30 times for us, he started every five, six days for the entire year. No run support in the first half… Tanner went through a few different times where he’s just kind of battling himself at times on the mound with his mechanics, it was just kind of that inconsistent year… If you look at Tanner Bibee’s regular season, he did everything we needed him to do. Took the ball every five to six days. Gave us length, I think he led our team in innings.

“He was our rock in that rotation, and I don’t see that role changing in ’27. He’s going to be a big part of our team and a big part of our rotation moving forward.”
Bibee certainly endured ups and downs this past season. His 4.36 ERA and league-leading 15 losses speak to his underperformance, but they also tell the story of the lack of run support he received at times. At just 27 years old, the idea of Bibee bouncing back next year is realistic. Cleveland would instantly have one of the best rotations in the game if Bibee can turn back the clock and pitch like he did earlier in his career.
A 2024 version of Tanner Bibee with Parker Messick and Gavin Williams would make Cleveland’s rotation a true strength.
