The federal AI committee flags sovereign capability, sharing benefits with Pacific neighbours, and security access to frontier models, while copyright remains unresolved.
The Australian government’s joint select committee on AI, set to formally report to parliament on November 30, has taken the unusual step of issuing early advice on its preliminary findings.
It cited the rapid pace of AI advancement, along with what it said is the urgent need to put in place arrangements safeguarding the nation, as well as the need to provide both the community and industry with certainty, as its reasons for issuing the early advice.
The advance flagging of the committee’s preliminary findings will also help inform the government of actions the committee believes must be taken.
