Melanie Griffith’s former Los Angeles home is back on the real estate market, with an asking price of $5.8 million following an extensive renovation. The Spanish-style residence, built in 1937, has undergone a transformation since the actress sold it in 2024, bringing fresh attention to a property that has seen several price changes over the past year.
According to a report by Realtor dot com, which detailed the home’s ownership history and latest listing, Griffith purchased the house in March 2019 for $3.75 million and sold it five years later for $4.7 million. The property has since been updated and returned to the market at a lower price than its original asking figure. The house’s appeal lies in its blend of traditional Spanish architecture, contemporary interiors and secluded outdoor spaces, offering a private retreat in one of Los Angeles’ sought-after residential neighbourhoods.
A 1937 home with a contemporary makeover
Spread across just over 3,200 square feet, the residence features three bedrooms and three bathrooms. Its exterior retains the character of a classic Spanish-style property, while the renovation has refreshed the interiors to accommodate modern living and entertaining.Set behind leafy hedges and a gated driveway, the house offers a sense of privacy despite being within easy reach of popular West Hollywood destinations, including Soho House and The Bird Streets Club.
Inside, the layout combines formal and informal living areas. A living room with a fireplace provides a traditional focal point, while an adjoining family room creates a more relaxed setting. French doors connect the interiors to the backyard, allowing natural light to filter through the living spaces and opening up views of the outdoor area. The kitchen has also been renovated, with modern appliances and a dedicated dining nook.
Together, these spaces give the home a balance of period character and updated functionality.
A private primary suite and light-filled bedrooms
Two bedrooms and two bathrooms occupy the main floor, while the upper level houses the primary suite. The bedroom opens onto a private balcony overlooking the garden, adding another secluded corner to the property. The adjoining bathroom features a soaking tub, a spacious walk-in shower and finishes designed to create a spa-like atmosphere.
A large walk-in closet with illuminated shelving provides additional storage and display space. Vaulted ceilings and generous windows contribute to the airy feel of the bedrooms. Other decorative details, including patterned wallpaper and built-in shelving, add character to the interiors without taking away from the home’s overall contemporary refresh.
Outside, the landscaped grounds and swimming pool extend the living space beyond the house, making the property suitable for both quiet afternoons and social gatherings.
Repeated listings and a reduced asking price
The property’s journey back onto the market has been marked by successive price reductions. It was first listed in May 2025 for $6.3 million, before the asking price was reduced to $5.99 million. The listing was withdrawn in January 2026 and subsequently returned at $5.89 million. After another removal, it reappeared at $5.8 million in May 2026, according to Realtor dot com.The latest asking price is $500,000 below the original listing figure, although it remains $1.1 million above the amount Griffith received when she sold the property in 2024.
The eventual sale price, however, will depend on whether a buyer is willing to meet the current asking price.Griffith’s ownership of the home was also covered by Yahoo Entertainment in September 2024, when the publication reported her off-market sale. Observer had earlier reported her purchase of the Spanish-style property in 2019, noting its gated setting near the Sunset Strip. The listing has another family connection: Griffith’s daughter, actress Dakota Johnson, also put her longtime Los Angeles home on the market for $6 million in May 2026.
Johnson’s property has a midcentury modern design, offering a different architectural style from her mother’s former Spanish-style residence. For now, Griffith’s former home remains a study in the appeal of historic Los Angeles architecture, with its original character, renovated interiors and private outdoor setting forming the central draw for prospective buyers.
