Guwahati, Oct 15: The Assam government has provided a one-time financial assistance of ₹5 lakh to the family of Himashree Boro, a young dancer from the state who was found dead near railway tracks in Andhra Pradesh under circumstances that remain under investigation.
Dimoria MLA Tapan Das handed over the cheque to the bereaved family under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the family’s residence and assured them of the state government’s support, expressing confidence that justice would be delivered.
Himashree had travelled to Visakhapatnam to participate in a cultural event. While returning to Assam, she boarded a train on October 6, a day ahead of her troupe, as she had an examination to attend in the state.
According to reports, she had contacted her family during the journey, expressing fear over the presence of several allegedly intoxicated men in the train coach and stating that she felt unsafe.
Her body was found near railway tracks between the Ponduru and Dusi sections in Andhra Pradesh the following day. Her mortal remains were brought back to Assam on Saturday, and her last rites were performed.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance during the train journey and her subsequent death.
