The Pittsburgh Steelers have arrived in Paris ahead of their international game against the New Orleans Saints this Sunday, but inclement weather forced them to cancel a scheduled morning practice.
The team’s arrival coincides with heightened security concerns across the French capital, leading to the cancellation of an official fan event. The gathering had been planned at O’Sullivans, a pub located in the Bastille neighborhood of southeastern Paris.
Thousands of student protesters returned to the streets of Paris after a French court suspended a police ban on their demonstration. Hundreds of police officers were deployed across the area, with the French government stating it will accept no looting or violence. The protests are concentrated in the southeastern portion of Paris, with the main area of concern situated just across the river from the Bastille neighborhood.
To manage security, overnight curfews have been established in two designated areas and will remain in effect through Monday. The stadium where the Steelers and Saints are scheduled to play on Sunday is located approximately five miles north of the protest site.
The team traveled to Europe following Thursday’s practice, with their flight taking off shortly after training concluded. The Steelers shared photos of their arrival in Paris on Friday morning.
Kickoff for Sunday’s game is set for 9:30 a.m.
