If you're still considering heading to Soldier Field in downtown Chicago for the Chicago Bears' matchup with the New England Patriots on Thursday night, you'd better be ready to hurt your wallet. There's no other way to put it.
With kickoff just a few hours away at the time of this writing, I could not find a pair of tickets for the primetime game for less than $1,000 total. And, quite honestly, the average price for a pair of tickets was closer to $1,500. If you're flying solo, you're paying a minimum of around $1,000. Mind you, dearest readers, those prices are for nosebleed seats. Unless you're ready to say YOLO, you probably don't want to know the general going rate for tickets much closer to the field. Well, not unless you want to induce a mini panic attack.
Buy last-minute tickets from StubHub for Patriots-Bears!
At face value, such absurd "get-in" prices for Bears-Patriots make sense, even though they price out most Average Joes and Jills. This is a night game in Chicago, one of the NFL's most rabid football markets, featuring Caleb Williams and Drake Maye, two of the NFL's brightest young quarterbacks. That sounds like a great game on paper in itself. Oh, and the Bears are also honoring franchise legend Mike Ditka in their first home game since his death in mid-October. That might add a few hundred dollars per ticket on its own.
Pack all these factors into a messy burrito of intrigue, and it's easier to see why folks have to pay an arm and a leg for same-day tickets to attend the game.
