South African DJ and music producer Prince Kaybee has set X (formerly Twitter) alight after ruthlessly roasting his own appearance in a fitness throwback post, only for followers to point out that he looked virtually the same in both photos. It started when X user Its Delu M (@itsdelu_m) posted two close-up car selfies of the DJ side by side, captioned:
"Bathong, we need to take fitness serious, bonang hela … the difference is insane! 🔥🔥🔥 2023 Vs 2026."
Prince Kaybee (@KabeloMusic) then quote-tweeted the post with his own brutal take, writing:
"Yeah, this is crazy, look at the fat dude on the left, sies. 🤮"
Fitness culture under the spotlight
What began as a lighthearted flex quickly turned into a broader conversation about body image, self-perception, and gym culture on South African social media. The contrast between how Prince Kaybee saw himself and what others actually observed in the photos became the focal point of the debate, with many users weighing in on the fine line between fitness motivation and an unhealthy relationship with one's own body.
The post racked up over 235,000 views on the day it was shared, 22 October 2026, as the timeline filled with takes on whether the DJ's self-critique was playful banter or something worth paying closer attention to.
Mzansi pushes back on the self-criticism
The reaction from his followers was swift, and not quite what the "Fetch Your Life" hitmaker may have expected. Rather than celebrating a glow-up, peeps rushed to his replies to point out that the two photos were nearly identical, with many questioning whether his harsh self-perception was warranted.
(@Treasure_MQ) offered perhaps the most pointed observation of the thread, replying simply:
"I think you might have body dysmorphia."
Kopano Mpho was equally blunt:
"But there’s no difference here, just a s*x champion who ate on frame 1 and who's starving on frame 2."
Lebo $ kept it short and direct:
"Fat is a stretch. Be serious."
