Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna has spoken out following a visit to former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua's Wamunyoro home, signalling the possibility of a formal opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The visit took place shortly after Gachagua returned from a stay of over a month in the United States. Sifuna was joined by a delegation from the Linda Mwananchi Movement that included Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya, Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and former Law Society of Kenya president Faith Odhiambo.
Writing on his X account following the meeting, Sifuna thanked Gachagua and his wife for their hospitality and pointed to further engagement between the two camps.
"Ahsante sana Rigathi Gachagua and Mama Dorcas for inviting the Linda Mwananchi team to your Wamunyoro residence today. We believe this is the first of many engagements that will foster unity within the opposition as we gear up for the General Elections. Mbele kuzuri," Sifuna wrote.
2027 Alliance Speculation
The meeting has intensified speculation about a potential Sifuna-Gachagua political ticket. Democracy for Citizens Party deputy Cleophas Malala has been among the loudest advocates for such a partnership, arguing that a united Luhya-Kikuyu front would present a formidable challenge to President William Ruto.
Sifuna's communications staffer Abbie Zuena went further, predicting a landslide should the two leaders formalise their arrangement.
"We expect to be insulted this week because HE himself, Edwin Sifuna, has met Rigathi Gachagua. I'm telling you this will be 70+1% win in 2027," she said.
Gachagua, who has vowed to prevent Ruto from securing a second term, made his intentions clear while addressing Kenyans in Kansas, United States, last week.
"Whoever we will settle on after our consultation would be the president of Kenya. We cannot make a mistake of allowing Ruto to remain in office even for one extra day. We will do whatever it takes to ensure he is wantam," he said.
Babu Owino reinforced that position, warning that a divided opposition would hand Ruto an uncontested path back to State House. He urged opposition figures to consolidate behind a single candidate to mount an effective challenge in the next election.
