KOTA BARU: Kelantan has prepared 451 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) with the capacity to accommodate 200,000 flood victims ahead of the coming northeast monsoon.
State Social Welfare Department director Che Samsuzuki Che Noh said the centres were located across all districts, with most in Pasir Mas and Tumpat.
He said 162 forward bases had also been set up as part of the state's flood preparedness measures.
"All agencies involved are ready to face any eventuality, as floods could hit the state at any time.
"All food supplies and other essential equipment have been delivered to the 162 forward bases across all districts.
"The distribution was completed last month," he said to reporters after officiating the 2026 Temporary Evacuation Centre Management Training and Simulation Programme.
He said the annual exercise was aimed at refreshing the knowledge and skills of personnel from government agencies involved in flood disaster management.
The exercise also involved community representatives, including penggawa (local administrative heads), to ensure effective coordination and preparedness during emergencies.
"A total of 249 participants took part in today's exercise for Kota Baru district," he said.
Che Samsuzuki said 12 similar programmes would be held statewide, with the series beginning in early October.
He said the exercises were important to ensure all parties remained prepared and up to date on procedures and challenges in disaster management, particularly during floods.
