Pink trainers, t-shirts and community spirit are all coming together to hit the Malaga province this month as part of the annual “Marea Rosa,”, several areas are preparing to host solidarity walks and there is still time to sign up and be part of it.
Known locally as Marea Rosa — meaning “Pink Tide” — the walks are organised by the Spanish Association Against Cancer, better known as the AECC as part of the charity’s province-wide campaign, Nos lo tomamos a pecho, or “We take it to heart”.

Support beyond treatment
Breast cancer affects far more than medical appointments and treatment plans. This year’s AECC campaign focuses on the emotional and practical needs of people living with the disease, as well as the importance of research, information and community support.
More than 150 activities are taking place across Malaga province during October, including information stands in more than 25 local areas.
World Breast Cancer Day
Many of the walks take place around Breast Cancer Awareness Month and World Breast Cancer Day on Monday, October 19, a global awareness day dedicated to supporting people affected by breast cancer, encouraging early detection and funding research.
Malaga city will mark the date with an interactive street event on Calle Marques de Larios, organised with the La Caixa Foundation. Residents unable to join a walk can still show their support by visiting the event, wearing pink or donating to a local breast cancer charity.
For anyone interested in digging out their pink outfits and supporting the walks, checking directly with the relevant local AECC branch is the best way to confirm final details before setting out.
