KOTA KINABALU: No police reports alleging that the late Zara Qairina Mahathir had been murdered, injured or struck with a blunt object were received, the Coroner's Court was told.
Investigating officer Inspector Wong Yew Zhung confirmed this when lawyer Abdul Fikry Jaafar Abdullah asked whether police had received reports concerning the alleged incidents.
Fikry: At that time, none of Zara's family members had informed you that she had been bullied by senior students, correct?
Wong: Correct.
Fikry: At that time, no witnesses had come forward claiming that Zara had been bullied to the point that it caused her death, correct?
Wong: Correct.
Coroner Amir Shah Amir Hassan later questioned Wong about the 200 people involved in the investigation, including 152 students residing in the hostel.
Amir: Of the 200 individuals, or specifically the 152 students staying at the RA hostel block, was it the case that throughout your investigation, not a single person witnessed what happened to Zara before she was found on the lower level?
Wong: Correct.
Amir: Can you confirm again that, as stated in your witness statement, there were 152 students residing at the hostel block, but not all 152 were interviewed to assist in the investigation, correct?
Wong: Correct.
Amir: And following that, can you confirm that no one witnessed what happened to Zara before she was found on the ground level of the hostel?
Wong: Correct.
Zara was found unconscious on the ground floor of her school hostel on July 16, 2025, and was pronounced dead the following day at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Amir has fixed Friday for submissions.
